Empowering Women Through Dignity and Sustainability: Celebrating Women's History Month with The Undie Chest

As we celebrate Women's History Month, The Undie Chest is proud to reflect on our journey as a woman-owned business dedicated to empowering women by providing them with dignity and self-esteem through donated underwear.

This month gives us a great excuse to honor the incredible women who have made history in our business and the broader realms of philanthropy.

When Did Women's History Month Start?

Women's History Month originated from a week-long celebration in Santa Rosa, California in 1978. The following year, the idea expanded to a national event in the United States.

Since 1987, March has officially been recognized as Women's History Month, dedicated to honoring the contributions and achievements of women throughout history.

Our Woman-Owned Business Journey

At the heart of The Undie Chest lies a profound commitment to empowerment, and our journey as a women-owned business is integral to the realization of this mission. Being a woman-owned business goes beyond the realm of entrepreneurship; it's a testament to our dedication to fostering positive change in the lives of women.

As a women-owned enterprise, we recognize the unique challenges and triumphs that women face daily. Our leadership, shaped by the experiences and insights of women, allows us to approach our mission with a deep understanding of the importance of reclaiming dignity and self-esteem.

This perspective is woven into the fabric of our organization, influencing every decision we make and every initiative we undertake.

Every step we take, from our partnerships to our outreach programs, is guided by the understanding that empowerment begins with dignity.

Female-Led Business Partners

Not only is the Undie Chest a woman-owned nonprofit serving families in need, but we are fortunate to collaborate with excellent female-led business partners who share our commitment to women’s empowerment.

Their generous contributions of overstock and returns enable us to reach more individuals in need while reducing our environmental impact.

The women-owned retailers we partner with share our mission to reduce our carbon footprint while empowering women to look and feel their best.

Everibody, Non Disclosure Apparel, and Girlfriend Collective are a few female-led partners who make our mission possible.

Impact Stories

Real stories speak louder than words. We want to share the impact of our initiatives through the stories of the organizations we support and the women who have been positively affected by our joint efforts. These stories highlight the tangible difference made in the lives of individuals, emphasizing the importance of our mission.

"Through their [Undie Chest] support, we have assisted over 500 women with vital essentials such as bras, compression garments and prostheses needed while in recovery

"With this partnership, we have been able to focus on serving women who are underinsured or uninsured. We pay particular attention to assisting women of color, women in the Latina community and Native communities."

Elizabeth Ayers-Cluff,
Board President at
Impact One Breast Cancer Foundation.

"Foster youth need undergarments, bras, and underwear to help them feel more stability in their journey. If everything else is unpredictable, their undergarments shouldn't be. When I get supplies of undergarments from the Undie Chest, I can help my community."

Ashley Hill,
Founder and Executive Director at
Magdelena's Daughters.

"I personally remember how important your donations were to the girls I worked with. I had no clue how much each child was suffering just getting dressed in the morning. Underwear and bras. So important!! Yet so underrated."

Karena Cason,
Former Director of Operations for Teen Sex Trafficking Survivors.

.Undie Chest is so grateful to have these incredible partnerships that enable us to make a difference in women's and girls' lives so they can feel empowered in their transformative journey.

How to Celebrate Women’s History Month

Many people use Women's History Month to learn more about remarkable women like Amelia Earhart, Elizabeth Blackwell, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, and Susan B. Anthony. These individuals have significantly impacted various fields, breaking barriers and inspiring generations.

Since our mission at the Undie Chest is inspired by the efforts of women in philanthropy, we want to share just a few of those inspiring women in honor of Women’s History Month.

Madam C.J. Walker

A trailblazer in the business and philanthropic worlds, she stands out as a pioneering figure. Through her successful hair care business, she not only shattered glass ceilings for women of color but also used her wealth to support various charitable causes, including education and healthcare for African Americans.

Melinda Gates

Another remarkable woman is Melinda Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Her tireless efforts in global health, gender equality, and education have impacted countless lives worldwide.

Oprah Winfrey

Furthermore, Oprah Winfrey, well-known for her media empire, has also dedicated substantial resources to philanthropic endeavors, particularly in education and empowerment programs for women and children. These inspiring women serve as beacons of hope, exemplifying the transformative power of generosity and compassion.

Celebrating Women's History Month goes beyond just recognizing historical figures; it's also about acknowledging the ongoing need for women's empowerment.
